For GymSchool 2017 we have added a wide range of workshops to run alongside the accredited coaching courses being delivered. These workshops have been developed based on feedback throughout the year from coaches and club managers, and reflect a growing desire among coaches to develop their skills within the coaching level they are at as well as progressing through the traditional coach pathway.
There is some excellent international talent running these workshops, including Mary Wright who has coached US Olympians and World Championship teams and is very comprehensive in developing training programmes. And Terry Walker, ex-Head Team Coach at the World Champions Centre in Texas, home of Simone Biles. This is a brilliant opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business.
The workshops are designed to offer learning opportunities both within and across codes for example:
Workshop 1 – 9.00-10.30 am (Saturday – option 2)
Handstand and extension skills – Alexandra Koudinova
Nailing the handstand, plus extensions – pivots, presses
Also an artistic Junior Module, but can also be used for AER as a base for teaching other acro skills. Coaches working in the lower competitive programme and advanced recreation classes will also find this useful.

Workshop 2 – 10.45 am – 12.15 pm (Saturday – option 1)
Spotting SOS – Terry Walker
Spotting a range of intermediate/senior skills with an emphasis on flyaways.
With a flyaway being added back into STEP/Level 6 this will help with coaches wanting to know hands on spotting. Can be adapted for other skills as well if we know in advance. Many many coaches have been asking for more support with spotting so this is a great opportunity to focus on this.
