A small but very enthusiastic group of coaches started their coaching journeys by completing the Foundation Coach qualification on Sunday, in the small Taranaki town of Waitara – the first in a couple of years. With regional New Zealand making up a large part of our membership, holding coach education courses in the smaller towns is increasingly important. Courses have also been held in Te Anau, Greymouth and Timaru, and we look forward to finalising one in Cromwell soon.
Though the Understanding Movement Practical Course in Waitara saw only six attendees, a lot of new ideas were brought to light. Coaches also took well to the games and warm up ideas and different ways to teach fundamental movement patterns.
A huge thanks goes to Shirley Baker for presenting the course and creating such a fun, and productive environment. Those who attended were literally ‘jumping for joy’.
