Teachers Learn Fundamentals Through KiwiSport

Teachers from Russell School learning some new moves.

As part of the Hutt City Council KiwiSport Fundamental project, teachers from across the region are taking part in gymsports specific Professional Development sessions. In these sessions teachers learn about GymSports New Zealand and our codes, learn what the seven fundamental movement skills are and how these can be put into practice in the classroom.

Recently Russell School took part and what a wonderful experience it was. The teachers were able to make connections between academic and physical challenges for individual students.  One example found was a child who struggles to write their own name, also struggled with moveMprove and swimming. It will be interesting to see how these teachers take this new knowledge back into their classrooms.
