Gymnastics Community Reaches Major Integrity Milestone

Anna Robertsone-News

Gymnastics New Zealand has today formally adopted the Sport Integrity Commission’s Code for Integrity in Sport and Recreation, becoming the first major national sporting organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand to do so.

The milestone reflects more than six years of commitment across our gymnastics community to strengthen safeguarding, improve culture, and create positive, safe environments for everyone involved in our sport.

For CEO Andrea Nelson, the adoption is not simply about signing the Code, it is recognition of the commitment already demonstrated by clubs across the country.

“The fact that we can confidently adopt the Code, knowing our clubs have already met or exceeded the minimum standards, is a huge tribute to how far our sport has come.

“This achievement belongs to our clubs, coaches, volunteers, officials, and staff, who have worked incredibly hard over many years to strengthen safeguarding and create positive experiences for our members.”

Over the past six years, we have worked alongside our clubs to strengthen safeguarding and integrity across the sport. Today’s adoption of the Code is an acknowledgement of the progress we have made together and our shared commitment to continuing that work.

While many of the Code’s expectations are already embedded across our sport, we will continue working with clubs over the coming months to ensure our policies, resources, and practices remain aligned with best practice.

We would like to acknowledge the Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui for its leadership in developing the Code and supporting sporting organisations across Aotearoa New Zealand to strengthen integrity throughout the sector.

Together, this milestone reflects how far our sport has come and our ongoing commitment to ensuring gymnastics remains a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for everyone.
