2019 AGM and Conference

Anna RobertsonClubland Newsletter

The AGM and Club Conference is always an excellent opportunity for clubs to come together, learn something new about current topics, connect with other clubs and come away with new ideas to put into practice.
This year conference topics included Member Protection and Leadership. Membership Protection was broken into four sections:

  • Member protection – Leanne Olsen (GNZ)
  • Sport Integrity – Andrew McCormack (Brandts-Giesen McCormick Lawyers)
  • Athlete Welfare – Roger Mortimer (NZ Athletes Federation)
  • Judicial Regulations – Tony Compier (GNZ CEO)

For the presentations please refer to the documents section on Club Portal under Governance.

Leadership – The second session of the conference focused on leadership. Sasha Coburn from ‘The Company You Keep’ gave a very funny and extremely insightful presentation on leadership and the importance of self-awareness on building high performing teams. This saw a great deal of internal reflection and many ‘aha’ moments around the room with many discussing afterwards the elements they would be taking away to apply in their own settings. Unfortunately, there is no presentation to share from this session – Sasha was a one-off wonder.

Some feedback from those who attended:
“I found it invaluable and took lots from it to implement in our Club. We will absolutely be attending next year” Nick Anderson (President – Huntly Gymnastics)
“Sascha (Leadership speaker) was fantastic and really got me thinking about all the different sides to leadership but in such an interesting and fun way.”
“What most stood out for me was understanding that there is so much to leadership and as a manager, I need to be able to take a step back and be ready to change my leadership style depending on the situation and what is needed.” – Zara Struthers (Centre Manager – Hutt Valley Gymnastics)
