The South Canterbury Movement Centre Trust and South Canterbury GymSports finally got to cut the red ribbon and open the complex known as the Movement Excellence Centre on Saturday 19 November.
In 2012 a determined group of people formed a steering group led by David Fridd, president of South Canterbury GymSports, to establish a business case to convince council that the redundant building still had a purpose in the community. Four years of hard work and effort has paid off and the old swimming pool complex has now been converted into a full gymsports gymnasium. Gymnasts from South Canterbury GymSports put on an excellent display for the visitors showing us just how fantastic their facility is.
The building was opened by Robyn Lyon Deputy Mayor of Timaru and Ken Grave Chairperson of the South Canterbury Movement Centre Trust.
