The Taranaki Secondary School Sport Association (TSSSA) event hosted by Gymnastics Waitara on 20 August was a resounding success, bringing together 67 students from Taranaki High Schools for a day of fun and unforgettable experiences.
The disability inclusive event saw students accompanied by their caregivers, parents, and teachers, with additional support from TSSSA, Halberg, and Parafed staff. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and lively chatter.
Parafed staff praised the event, saying, “What an event, what a place, so good, such a good vibe. Everyone, including me, had such a good time.”
The spacious facility at Gymnastics Waitara allowed for multiple activity stations, catering to a range of abilities. Participants could choose from basic activities or more challenging tasks, ensuring everyone was engaged and had the opportunity to achieve something meaningful. Special provisions were made for wheelchair students, who enjoyed a dedicated area designed to push their comfort zones while having fun. Their parents and caregivers also joined in, trying out various stations.
TSSSA staff expressed their gratitude: “Thank you so much for today, the students all had a great time (and so did we).”
As the event ended, the parachute game calmed the students, many of whom ended up giggling under the parachute. Participation certificates and ribbons were awarded, much to the delight of the students.
Halberg staff highlighted the inclusive nature of the event: “What an amazing event, so good to see the inclusion activities that were provided for all the students.”
