South Island Clubs Pitch In for Kaikoura

Anna Robertsone-News, Regional, South Island

The Kaikoura township was struck badly by the November 2016 earthquake, and the Kaikoura Gymnastics Club was unable for a long time to see what they were left with.  The school hall they call home sustained significant damage, but thankfully most equipment was saved.  By good fortune the new equipment they had just purchased hadn’t arrived, so that is kindly being stored for them in Auckland until they are fully operational again.

The Club should be able to start classes in term two and are really keen to get back up and running.  In saying this, there a lot of the families who have suffered financially through job losses or a reduction in employment hours.  In order to help subsidise members so that they can get back to gymnastics, Canterbury Clubs Olympia Gymnastic Sports, Christchurch School of Gymnastics, Te Wero Gymnastics Club, Rangiora Gymnastics Club along with Blenheim Gymnastics Club are getting in behind the small Kaikoura Gymnastics Club and its members by holding various fundraising events.

The fundraising efforts from these generous clubs will go a long way in making sure Kaikoura gymnasts are able to get back into the gym and continue with the sports they love.

If your club would like to participate in a fundraising event for Kaikoura Gymnastic Club please email Lisa for details.
