NZ Coaches Build Expertise at FIG Academies

Anna Robertsone-News

Over the past two weeks, a group of New Zealand coaches have taken part in FIG academies in Australia, continuing to build knowledge, capability, and coaching excellence across our sports.

Coaches attended academies across several disciplines, including women’s artistic, rhythmic, trampoline, and tumbling, progressing through different academy levels. Each academy involved four intensive days of learning, combining lectures with practical assessments designed to strengthen both technical understanding and applied coaching skills.

FIG academies are internationally recognised education programmes delivered by World Gymnastics (name change from FIG – International Gymnastics Federation). Coaches who complete an academy receive a FIG diploma, recognised worldwide, reflecting a high standard of coaching knowledge and practice.

Congratulations to all coaches who completed their academies and demonstrated a strong commitment to ongoing learning. A special mention goes to Jaimie Le Bas (Gymnastica), who achieved the highest score in the FIG level 2 trampoline and tumbling practical examination – an outstanding result.

The ongoing development of coaches through opportunities like these plays an important role in supporting quality experiences for gymnasts at all levels across Aotearoa.
