Following the publication of the Heron Report, which claimed that Cycling New Zealand was responsible for the toxic culture within their track team, High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) and Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ) have launched an interim complaints service.
From 1 May 2019, the service is available to HPSNZ Programmes that have carded athletes. For Gymnastics, this means just Trampoline. The service will handle athlete complaints around bullying, harassment and inappropriate behaviour, athlete wellbeing including recognising and responding to mental health issues, and other breaches of applicable National Sporting Organisation codes of conduct.
The new service will be delivered by Dyhrberg Drayton Employment Law. To help ensure due process, anonymous complaints will not be permitted, but all details relating to the complainant’s identity will be kept confidential unless there is a risk of serious harm or otherwise agreed with the complainant. It will continue to operate until a permanent system-wide solution is in place.
Trampoline athletes wishing to make a complaint can dial 0800 776 788 for a confidential call. Or complete an online form.
Within the next 6 weeks, our new Judicial Regulations will be released to our Member Clubs. These will include a formal complaints procedure for all of our gymnastics sports. Formal complaints currently go to our Chief Executive Officer, Tony Compier.
