Coaches and club leaders from three regions came together at Howick Gymnastics to share their experiences, explore what clubs need to grow their programmes, and contribute to the next stage of parkour development within Gymnastics NZ. Held in June, the day brought club perspectives and practical experience into conversations about how the discipline continues to grow across the country.

The parkour development day focused on two key areas: supporting strong club programmes and building capability for future parkour events. Clubs shared ideas and experiences around participant engagement, programme delivery, equipment use, and creating opportunities for a wide range of ages and abilities.
The group also explored the parkour programme handbook (available in club portal for affiliated clubs), which provides guidance around programme structure and participant progression, giving clubs another resource to support the development of their parkour programmes.

The day also covered the practical considerations involved in delivering a positive parkour competition experience. Building confidence and capability in this area will support more consistent and accessible competitive opportunities as the parkour pathway continues to take shape.
Importantly, the day created an opportunity for clubs to learn from each other and contribute their own experiences and perspectives. Bringing coaches and club leaders into the conversation helps ensure the next stage of parkour development reflects what clubs and participants need in practice.
Thank you to Howick Gymnastics for hosting and to the coaches and club administrators who contributed their time, ideas, and experience to the day.
