The Gymnast of the Year Awards recognise athletes who have delivered outstanding performances while also demonstrating the leadership, sportsmanship and commitment that contribute to our wider gymnastics community.
This year, five athletes have been recognised across artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline gymnastics for their achievements both in competition and beyond.
Congratulations to our 2026 Gymnast of the Year recipients: William Fu-Allen, Courtney McGregor, Havana Hopman, Maddie Davidson, and Dylan Schmidt.

William Fu-Allen – 2026 Men’s Artistic Gymnast of the Year

William Fu-Allen (Tri Star Gymnastics) is a true leader and role model within New Zealand gymnastics. Through his mentorship, encouragement, and willingness to support others, he creates an environment where athletes feel valued, challenged, and inspired to be their best.
Beyond his own success, William contributes to athlete wellbeing initiatives and regularly provides coaching support, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the sport.
William produced outstanding results on the international stage in the last 12 months. At the 2025 World Championships, he placed 24th in the all-around competition, out of 124 competitors. On floor, he recorded an impressive score of 13.333 and was just 0.233 points away from a top-16 finish. His difficulty score of 5.1 was the third-highest among all finalists during qualification, highlighting his world-class capability and competitiveness.
William’s achievements, leadership, and dedication to others make him a highly deserving recipient of the 2026 Men’s Artistic Gymnast of the Year Award.
Courtney McGregor – 2026 Women’s Artistic Gymnast of the Year

Courtney McGregor’s (Tri Star Gymnastics) gymnastics journey is a remarkable story of resilience, determination, and perseverance. From Olympic competition, to pursuing a career in medicine, and then returning to international gymnastics, she has continually demonstrated what can be achieved through hard work and commitment.
After stepping away from the sport for four years, Courtney returned to training in 2025 with the goal of competing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Her comeback was extraordinary, highlighted by winning the 2025 national title and re-establishing herself as one of New Zealand’s leading gymnasts.
At the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Courtney achieved an outstanding fifth-place finish in the vault final, the only women’s artistic athlete to meet the programme objective of a top-six event final result. She also represented New Zealand with distinction as an ambassador for the team throughout the Games.
A valued teammate and role model, Courtney continues to inspire others through her resilience, leadership and dedication both within and beyond gymnastics.
Courtney is a truly deserving recipient of the 2026 Women’s Artistic Gymnast of the Year Award.
Havana Hopman – 2026 Rhythmic Gymnast of the Year

Havana Hopman (Counties Manukau Gymnastics) is an outstanding ambassador for rhythmic gymnastics and a valued leader within her club and the wider gymnastics community. She is a dedicated athlete who consistently demonstrates commitment, resilience and sportsmanship, while supporting and encouraging those around her.
Beyond her own achievements, Havana gives back through volunteering, supporting club events and representing rhythmic gymnastics on the Gymnastics NZ Athletes’ Council.
In 2026, Havana delivered strong international performances, improving both her scores and rankings from the previous year. Highlights included placing 23rd in ball at the Sofia World Cup and 35th in ball at the World Championships, cementing her place among New Zealand’s leading rhythmic gymnasts.
Maddie Davidson – 2026 Female Trampoline Gymnast of the Year

Maddie Davidson (Olympia Gymnastic Sports) is an exceptional athlete whose impact extends far beyond competition. Alongside her success on the international stage, she is dedicated to giving back to the sporting community through coaching, judging, and supporting the development of young athletes.
Maddie also serves as an ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand, helping raise awareness and vital funding for the organisation.
In 2026, Maddie achieved outstanding international results, including a silver medal at the World Cup in France and a seventh-place finish at the 2025 Trampoline World Championships in Spain. She also made history at the World Cup in Portugal as the first female trampoline gymnast to compete a routine featuring five triple somersaults.
Together with Dylan Schmidt, Maddie finished fourth in the mixed synchronised trampoline event at the 2025 World Championships, missing the podium by just 0.01 points.
Through her performances, leadership and commitment to the gymnastics community, Maddie continues to inspire those around her and elevate the profile of trampoline gymnastics in New Zealand.
Dylan Schmidt – 2026 Male Trampoline Gymnast of the Year

Dylan Schmidt (Olympia Gymnastic Sports) is an outstanding ambassador for trampoline gymnastics in New Zealand. As an Olympic ambassador and ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand, he inspires young people across the country by sharing his journey and promoting resilience, perseverance, and wellbeing.
Dylan is also committed to developing the sport, earning a World Gymnastics level 1 diploma with one of the highest course scores and serving as a senior advanced judge.
On the international stage, Dylan continued to excel in 2026, winning bronze medals at World Cup events in Switzerland and France. At the 2025 World Championships, he and Maddie Davison finished an impressive fourth in the mixed synchronised trampoline event, missing the podium by just 0.01 points.
Through his achievements, leadership and dedication to the gymnastics community, Dylan has made a significant impact on the sport both in New Zealand and internationally.
