There has been considerable interest from clubs to grow TeamGym in NZ following the TeamGym Workshop delivered by Brooke Kneebush from Gymnastics Australia at the Gym For All Symposium last year. TeamGym is an exciting style of group performance, recommended for participants aged 8 years and over. It is based on the popular international European TeamGym competition combining parts of tumbling, mini-tramp and dance as a group. TeamGym is a useful retention programme as it is a team event which encourages individual skill development, team work, creativity and showmanship to provide the audience with an energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic performance.
A working group with local and international experience in TeamGym has been put together to support the development of a national TeamGym Programme that includes a Technical Handbook and event pathways that include a pathway for club teams to compete at Australian TeamGym Competitions. TeamGym Coach and judge education is also being developed.
The draft TeamGym technical handbook will be available for consultation towards the end of the year ready to roll out in 2018. Gymnastics NZ are really excited about the possibilities with this programme and there is already some interest from Gymnastics NZ staff to be involved in the programme.
Any questions can be directed to Margaret Wilton, Gymnastics NZ Programme Development Manager.
