Dr Denis Mowbray Elected to FIG Council

Anna RobertsonCEO / Board Updates

Kia Ora Members,

It is with great pleasure I can announce that at the FIG Congress held in Antalya, Turkey over the weekend, Dr Denis Mowbray has been elected to the position of Oceania representative, FIG Council.

Whilst unable to attend in person, Dr Mowbray participated via a live link as Congress addressed a wide range of topics covering such things as a respectful culture in the sport, good governance, and the quadrennial plan for the current Olympic cycle.

“I am humbled by the faith Oceania has shown in electing me as their representative on the FIG Council. Being able to articulate the unique view and challenges that face our region through such an important forum as the Council is an opportunity I will grasp with vigour”, said Dr Mowbray.

“On behalf of the OGU, I am very happy to see Denis elected unanimously as a FIG Council member,” said Kitty Chiller, President of the Oceania Gymnastics Union. “Denis was instrumental in setting up the OGU as a Continental Union, so it is a fitting recognition that he now represents that continent on Council. It is important for Oceania to be represented amongst the decision-making framework of the sport to represent the voice and the needs of all our members. I look forward to working closely with Denis throughout the next cycle.”

I am sure you will all join me in wishing Denis well in his role on Council and look forward to Oceania being represented with pride and relevance on the world stage.
