CEO letter to Members on Safe Sport

Anna RobertsonCEO / Board Updates

To our valued members,

As a community, we will all have an awareness of the recent saddening global events in relation to athlete abuse and gymnastic culture in recent times.  The actions of some have been abhorrent and completely unacceptable, and Gymnastics New Zealand (GNZ) agrees with and supports the global response and actions being taken to deal with these behaviours.

We cannot be naive and think that we should be immune to this global crisis. GNZ has received media enquiries in recent days and have been made aware of a number of issues that have required our immediate support and attention. These issues are likely to be made public in the coming days and my message to you is that GNZ is here to support all members, past and present. If anyone has something they think we need to know in the context of athlete well-being, then please get in touch with us via our safesport@gymnasticsnz.com. This email address has independent recipients and any matter will be strictly confidential. We are here to listen, help and make change where required.

The sport we all love provides many positive experiences and impacts on the lives of countless New Zealanders. That this is not always the case, is something that should drive us to focus on working together to look after our people to ensure we’re providing positive experiences for everyone involved.

Sincerely,

Tony Compier
Chief Executive Officer
