More than 110 coaches attended GymSchool on 14-15 January, which was a collection of coaching courses and workshops across all gymnastics disciplines. Sessions also included updates to the WAG and MAG competition programmes. Our inspirational presenters included Mary Wright, Terry Walker, Michele Hawke, Alexandra Koudinova, Mike Weinstock, Adrian Coman, Jarrod Herriot, Craig Carter, Erica Thorby, Flaminio Oliveira, Bronte Collucio and Amy Williams. There was also a well-attended injury prevention module prepared by Physio Rehab Group.
With most sessions being practical and the overlap of FIG Academy, the energy and activity was fantastic. Having workshop modules where coaches could dip in and out of proved to be very popular, especially with the range of modules offered. Coach development is of priority to GymSports NZ, and it was amazing to see so many enthusiastic coaches and gymnasts embrace this education opportunity whole heartedly over a very full weekend.
Paula Croasdale from Fantastic Gymnastics traveled down from Northland for the weekend – read here about her GymSchool experience.
And here’s what some other coaches had to say about GymSchool 2017…
“I just wanted to say a huge thanks for yesterday…I really enjoyed Terry’s workshops, he’s an incredible coach and I loved listening to him. I feel very inspired going into the new year…..” Becky Wallace (Waikanae Gymnastics Club)
“Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to attend GymSchool during the weekend. I found the course was very well organised and I appreciated the huge wealth of relevant knowledge the presenters were able to share with us. As we were able to practice on gymnasts I gained a lot of confidence with spotting, which in the past has been an area I have struggled immensely with.” Amalie Brown (Gymnastics Otamatea)
“Already implementing many ideas from the workshops and passing these on to our younger coaches.” Jane Sheldrake (Omni Gymnastics)
