FIG Age Group Camp First for NZ

Anna RobertsonEducation, International, Rhythmic gymnastics

We were super excited to host the FIG Rhythmic Age Group Camp over the weekend, the first of its kind in New Zealand. This was a follow up to the Oceania Camp run last year in Australia. Developed by FIG, many federations run the Age Group Programme – some as prescribed and other federations making some adaptions. It was a great opportunity to see how the programme is run and will be a starting point for some discussions on how our sport can benefit from such a programme moving forward, especially in the participation space.

Immediate benefits of the Camp lie in coach development as FIG Expert Kate Sigsworth (Australia) went through the developmental features of the programme, as well skill acquisition profiles, physical testing programme, technical testing programme, compulsory exercises and modified optional rules – a fantastic opportunity for our close-knit group of 16 nationwide coaches in attendance.

Special thank yous go out to FIG Expert Katie for leading such an inspirational and informative camp for our coaches. Also to Xtreme Rhythmix for the venue and all the fabulous coaches and demonstrators who were involved in the Camp.
