Men’s Results at Gold Coast 2018

Anna RobertsonGold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, International, Men's artistic gymnastics

Day one of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games saw some fantastic performances from our men’s artistic gymnastics (MAG) team.  After competing in Subdivision two, it was an anxious wait as previous top seeds Canada, England and Scotland battled it out in the final subdivision to determine the medalists.  Our NZ Team’s best result was on vault where they placed second behind gold medallists England, who went on to finish a whopping 10 points ahead of silver in the Teams competition.  The final results are:

  • England – 258.950
  • Canada – 248.650
  • Scotland – 240.975
  • Cyprus – 239.975
  • Australia – 238.125
  • New Zealand – 237.400

This round was also individual qualifications for apparatus and all-around finals.  A big congratulations to the following boys who went through to finals:

  • Ethan Dick – qualified 8th on floor, placed 5th; qualified 16th in all around, placed 11th.
  • Devy Dyson – qualified 8th on rings, placed 6th.  Devy’s score of 13.200 on high bar was the same as the 8th qualifier but Devy lost to the tiebreak (lower E score).
  • Kyleab Ellis – qualified 5th on vault, placed 7th (losing to a tie-break).
  • Misha Koudinov – qualified 9th in all around, placed 15th.

The boys showed great camaraderie and team spirit and wore the fern with pride.  We commend them all on their competition performances and the way they have and continue to represent our community both in and out of the gym.

Whilst Misha has returned to NZ to resume coaching commitments, Devy will return directly to Canada and Ethan, David and Kyleab will be returning to Auckland on the NZ Team flight on 16 April.
