Leah Scholefield from Eastland Port Gisborne Trampoline Club has been selected to represent New Zealand at the upcoming 2017 Australian Gymnastics Championships on the 30 May – 4 June.  She will be competing in individual trampoline, synchro and double-mini.

We had a wee chat to Leah about her recent selection…

2017 goal number one officially ticked off the list! Australian National Championships 2017 was my first goal that I set out to achieve at the start of this year. I’ve been training since the end of 2016 trampoline season and was determined to reach the Australian qualifying mark with ease. This will be my fourth time wearing the New Zealand leotard and representing our country at an international event.

What are you looking forward to in 2017?

This year I’m looking forward to seeing all my Australian friends that I’ve met along the way through my time being an international trampolinist. This year I will be competing in the Youth International division for my second time. I’m really excited to spend time with my NZ team/coaches and focus really hard on my routines and passes.

What are your goals for 2017?

My goal this year is to improve my scores and make finals again for all 3 disciplines, trampoline, double mini and synchronized trampoline and to bring home a medal would be another big goal to tick off the list for 2017.

Who has been your biggest support?

My parents have been a huge factor in supporting me through my trampoline journey and have again been supportive so far this year by funding my competitions and getting me to trainings on time almost every day. My coach has also helped get me to where I am today and has pushed me to achieve higher than I thought I could get.

Congratulations to Leah.  We wish her all the best in her competitions in Australia and goals for 2017.
